Occitan (Occitània [1] or Óucitanìo [2] in Occitan) means the area where Occitan (or langue d'oc) is spoken today or in the recent past. Occitania is inseparable from the Occitan culture that since the Middle Ages is the second side of the Roman culture in France and to a lesser extent in Italy, Spain and Monaco [3]. The partition between the langue d'oc and langue d'oil in space Gallo-Romance is very old since it began with the romanization itself [4]. In France, the Occitan faces a problem of recognition since French is the only "language of the Republic" which is compulsory in public places (streets, public places of commerce, labor ...) and in the administration (Laws, regulations, documents, decisions ...)
