Padre Pio is the nickname of an Italian Capuchin priest born Francesco Forgione, May 25, 1887 in Pietrelcina (Campania Province, Italy), died September 23, 1968. He took the name Pius (Pio in Italy) when he joined the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin. He was known for being the first priest and one of the few men to whom we attribute the stigma. He was canonized by the Roman Catholic Church in 2002 under the name of Saint Pio of Pietrelcina.
